Housing Update
Most first-year classes for Fall 2020 will be administered online. A few programs, like the Acting major in the Bachelor of Fine Arts, will host in-person classes. To accommodate this, some housing space has been made available for students with in-person instruction and for those with compelling circumstances. Students should have already sent in their applications by June 13, 2020 to be considered for these limited spots in residence. Please note that late applications can be submitted to UBC Okanagan for consideration.
Course Registration
Students who have accepted their offer of admission to UBC may already know their specific course registration date and time for the upcoming Winter Session. Students can find this information in the Student Service Centre .
Maintaining an Offer of Admission
UBC will be as flexible as possible to ensure that students’ applications are not disadvantaged by the disruptions caused by COVID-19. If your students have been unable to complete secondary school or their required courses due to school closures or cancellations, they will be evaluated on their interim results. They may be asked to submit documentation to confirm this. Otherwise, our evaluation process remains the same. Deferring Admission
Students who have received an offer of admission to full-time studies in the first year of a degree may request a deferral for one year. To request a deferral, students must accept their offer and submit a deferred admission request form before July 15. Students should pay special attention to the eligibility criteria for a deferral. We are unable to approve all deferral applications, so we recommend that students still register for first-year courses, even if their deferral request is pending.
Campus Tours: Online
In light of COVID-19, we made the difficult decision to suspend our in-person campus tours at both UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver. We’re still looking forward to meeting you, so we’ve moved our live tours online. Tours of the Okanagan Campus are an hour-long while for Vancouver they will last about 75 minutes. Both tours will end with a student panel. Students may visit the Tours and events page to register. Pre-recorded virtual tours are also available for anyone who is unable to attend a live campus tour.
Jump Start Orientation for First-Year Students
Even though Jump Start will be virtual this year, the week-long orientation program will still help students acclimate to university life and meet fellow first-years.The 5-day online event will include both live and pre-recorded activities to accommodate for time zone differences and accessibility. Jumpstart will run from August 31 to September 4 for both campuses. For more information:
Academic Essentials: Transitioning to UBC
Your students can prepare for their UBC classes by taking part in our Academic Essentials courses, free of charge, before they begin their first term. These online courses let incoming first-years strengthen math, reading, and writing skills, and develop the right mindset for university. Classes begin on July 6 and registration closes July 15. Mentoring Opportunity for Students in Rural BC
Rural eMentoring BC is a FREE online mentoring program for rural youth. eMentoring connects rural high school students with mentors who are in a variety of post secondary programs in BC, including at UBC. Mentors guide students through a flexible, semi-structured curriculum that prepares them for life after high school--all through a safe, secure, and regularly monitored online platform. Visit their website to learn how to use eMentoring for course credit (especially in CLE/CLC classes), for Capstone projects, or if you know of a rural high school student who could benefit from eMentoring.

UBC Support for Former Youth in Care
UBC Enrolment Services Advisor Chris Rambaran is your designated contact for youth in care and youth from care. Chris works directly with students to help them navigate university and external services, from their UBC application to graduation. There are two tuition waiver programs available to eligible youth with lived experience in the BC care system, and an admissions policy for former youth in care. Chris is available to staff and students to advise on processes, policies, and resources available for the overall wellness and success in post-secondary education.
The $200-million Schulich Leader Scholarship program awards 100 undergraduate scholarships annually to exceptional students who wish to study science, technology, engineering, or mathematics at top Canadian universities.
