A message to school advisors from UBC's Recruitment Team:
Even with the current circumstances, May is an exciting time for your students – many of them will be making their final university decision for the fall. Here are some important resources to help you navigate the home stretch.
Next steps for admitted students:
Students who have received an offer of admission from UBC might be wondering what’s next. Our After you've been Admitted page offers a step-by-step guide and video to help admitted students plan finances, secure housing, figure out course planning, and complete more crucial tasks between now and September.
Deadline to accept offers of admission:
Students can find the date by which to accept their offer in the Student Service Centre. The deadline to accept an offer of admission from UBC Okanagan is June 1, and some students admitted to the Vancouver campus have been given extensions to the May 1 deadline. Students can accept their offer and pay their acceptance deposit ($500 for domestic students and $1,000 for international students) in the Student Service Centre.
Classes will be online for Term 1:
Following the guidelines of the BC health authorities - classes for term 1 will be held online, with the exception of a few Faculty of Arts programs. These programs are the Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Social Work.
Tips for preparing to learn online:
Students may be apprehensive about online learning, especially in their first term of University. UBC is committed to providing world-class education whether in-person or online. If students need any tips or support regarding online instruction - this Keep Learning resource will be helpful.
International study permits:
International students attending high school in Canada (and are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada) should obtain a post-secondary study permit to study at UBC. That will involve changing the conditions on their current permit. More guidance on study permits can be found on UBC’s Coming from abroad page.
Please note: that your students must update their permit even if their UBC classes are online in the fall due to COVID-19.
Deferring admission:
If students have been admitted and would like to defer their admission to next year, may do so before June 26. There are some limited enrolment programs that do not allow deferrals and certain criteria are required for deferring. They may find more detailed information at our Deferring your admission webpage.
Alternative pathways to UBC:
Students who were unsuccessful in gaining admission to UBC are encouraged to contact an advisor at recruitment.ok@ubc.ca to discuss alternative pathways to UBC.
Virtual Indigenous Destination UBC:
From May 24 to May 29, 2020, all students who self-identify as Indigenous are invited to attend Virtual Indigenous Destination UBC. During this week-long online event, students will participate in various activities, including: making bannock, storytelling, beading circles, and more, and get to know the people you could attending class with in the fall. Our Virtual Destination UBC events will allow students to connect with current UBC students as well as staff and faculty. Sessions will cover the following topics: student life, learning options at UBC, finances and Indigenous services and resources.
Online sessions for prospective students:
For students entering Grades 10 to 12, we will be hosting four types of virtual seminars in June:
- All About UBC
- Student Life: Vancouver
- Student Life: Okanagan
- A session specific to students in IB and AP

Program spotlight - Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences:
Do you have students who are interested in biology, chemistry, and medicine? The Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC Vancouver teaches the science behind drug discovery and development. Your students will learn topics like pharmacology, nanomedicine, and analytical chemistry, and they can choose to do their own original research project. The program has a focus on entrepreneurialism and problem-solving, and your students will have the option to learn valuable real-world skills as part of a practicum. They’ll graduate ready for a technical position in pharmaceuticals, life sciences, or biotechnology, or take the next step to grad school.
That's it for now! As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you or your students have any questions.
Sincerely,
UBC's Recruitment Team
