The volunteer team at the Saanich Peninsula Youth Health Clinic is recruiting new volunteers for their Peer Health Educator program.
The volunteer educators help patients who come to the clinic to discuss birth/bleed control options and other sexual health queries. Ideally they are matched with someone close to them in age and experience who can help to answer questions and help prepare them to see the clinic's doctor. Seeking Grade 9 & 10 students who are looking to volunteer for a few years.
Volunteers also assist with cleaning/re-arranging the exam rooms, greeting patients, creating resource packages, and contributing to youth engagement events in the Peninsula region.
Commitment includes: 2 hours on Thursday evenings, 5:30-7:30pm, program runs through summer. The training includes the famous weekend training retreat in June!
Volunteers must be compassionate, approach topics with curiosity and non-judgement, interested in learning about health through various lenses- anti-racism, LGBTQ+, inclusion, decolonization, disability justice and more. Important to note our clinics assists with emergency contraceptives and abortion.
