Happy December!

Virtual sessions

For those who couldn’t make it to our open house last month, attending a virtual session is a great alternative. Here are some options that your students and their families might find helpful:

Discover UVic virtual information sessions are designed for prospective students to learn about all that the University of Victoria has to offer. We’ll cover topics from campus life and housing to hands-on learning and what it means to relocate to Victoria, Canada. Our next Discover UVic event is this upcoming December 12 at 4:00 p.m. PST.  More dates for January and February will be posted soon.

Parent Nights will guide parents and guardians on how to help their students succeed and thrive in their first year of university with a focus on strategies to navigate the transition from high school to university. Prospective students are welcome. The next session is scheduled for January 17 at 7:00 p.m. PST.

One-on-one virtual Zoom meetings with students

This spring, I will be offering one-on-one virtual Zoom appointments with students who have applied to UVic throughout the months of January – April. Students will receive an email invitation in the New Year.

Entrance scholarships for domestic students

We will be awarding automatic grades-based entrance scholarships this year to domestic students and international students graduating with a Canadian secondary diploma who meet the following criteria (students must self-report their grades for eligibility):

New Undergraduate programs

Bachelor of Arts in Music

This degree is ideal if you are seeking an education in music within a broader cultural context that does not require an audition or individual lessons on an instrument or voice. The BA in Music offers flexibility to explore the wide range of courses and subject areas UVic has to offer, while expanding musical knowledge through academic music courses and ensembles. Classical, jazz, rock, pop, singer/songwriter and electronic musicians will find ample opportunities to refine their skills while pursuing this major in a flexible, 4-year degree. More info here

Bachelor of Science in Climate Science

This degree is ideal if you are seeking an education that focuses on the climate problem and how to face it.  Students will learn to mitigate climate change and develop low-carbon economic strategies at the community level, work with information from some of the world’s most advanced computational modelling programs, and learn how to manage and analyze large scale datasets and how to work with geospatial data programs (GIS).  The program is shared between the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Social Sciences so new students can apply to either faculty.  More info here.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do to help you.

Cheers,
Stephanie
