A huge file of info to schools, from student recruitment at the University of Toronto:

 New and Notable
Certificates Galore

We're thrilled to announce that students at our Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education now have the option to pursue two new certificates with no separate application: a Certificate in Global Kinesiology and Physical Education and a Certificate in Physical Activity Instruction. And students working toward an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies or Visual Studies at the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape & Design can now pursue a Certificate in Sustainability of the Built Environment and a Certificate in Global Studies of the Built Environment.

Our Faculty of Arts & Science is also offering a new Certificate in Business Fundamentals. This certificate will be open to all non-Rotman Commerce students within the Faculty of Arts & Science, and will equip them with a foundation in financial analysis, accounting, marketing and business management. For a complete list of new Arts & Science programs, certificates and focuses, have a look at their Academic Calendar.

All of these exciting new certificates will make it easier for University of Toronto graduates to enter the workforce with an extra competitive edge.

Technology and Society

Students at the University of Toronto Mississauga now have the option to pursue a new Major in Technology, Coding & Society. This new program is housed within our world-renowned Centre for Communication, Culture, and Information Technology and will equip students with industry-ready skills. Students will also be just steps away from UTM's new Syd Bolton Collection, which offers a unique glimpse into the fifty years of gaming history with the help of 14,000+ video games and 5,000+ magazines, manuals, and books.

Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP)

Just a quick reminder that Faculty of Arts & Science students in eligible programs can combine 12-20 months of paid work with specialized professional development training. Students gain work experience in their target fields, learn valuable career skills, and build a network, all while being supported by a dedicated internship team. Learn more about ASIP.

Rebooting Our Bootcamps

Our Daniels' Faculty's Design Bootcamps will be running virtually this year. Meant for students in Grades 11 and 12 who are interested in architecture and design (and open to international students), these bootcamps are a fantastic way to build up drawings and models to complement admissions portfolios. Bootcamp students will have access to software used in Daniels' own undergraduate programs. Four bootcamps, each of which will be five weeks in length, will be offered from September 2021 through March 2022.

 Application & Admission Updates

Our top priority remains the health and wellbeing of our students, including our future students. We know that this has been a tough year. We have been monitoring the status of examination centres and the impact on high schools everywhere, and we continue to investigate options for students unable to access services. Be sure to check out our online resources, including our English Language Requirements page, for the latest on our programs and admission requirements.

Application Tips and Timelines

Last year, a new option was introduced for applicants to Rotman Commerce and Computer Science within the Faculty of Arts & Science, whereby applicants could select, within their JOIN portal, an alternate admission category to be considered for as a backup. This year, applicants to the Computer Science, Double Degree, Management, and Statistics admission categories at the University of Toronto Scarborough will also have the option to select an alternate admission category within their JOIN portal. We hope this will help maximize applicants' chances and ease some pressure.

A gentle reminder that we require all applicants, including those who must present proof of English proficiency, to complete a senior-level English course for admission to any of our first-entry programs. The English grade will be included in the calculation of the applicant's graduating average.

Some applicants may be asked to complete a Self-Reported Grades Form. This is a mandatory part of the process, and it is vital that applicants complete this form even if they will be submitting official transcripts. We strongly advise all applicants to submit required documents well in advance of official deadlines, as programs have limited space and many fill early.

As always, we invite students to apply well in advance of published deadlines. For early consideration, the recommended deadline is November 7, 2021.

 Fall Events & Visits

On Saturday, September 18th, we'll be kicking off the year with Start Here, a one-stop online event for any student looking to learn more about the Ontario university application process. And from Saturday, October 23rd, through Saturday, October 30th, we'll be hosting a series of open houses during our Fall Campus Week. These are terrific opportunities for students and their families to sample what's in store at U of T and get guidance from the comfort of their own home. Until then, students can always get a head start on their plans by signing up for webcasts or webchats, and asking us anything about our admission requirements, co-curricular opportunities, residence options, meal plans, athletic programs, and academic programs.

Our colleagues at U of T Mississauga will be offering in-person as well as audio guided tours starting in October. Students, parents and counsellors are encouraged to connect with the UTM team 24/7 through their virtual tour. Narrated in English and also translated into Arabic, Spanish, and Mandarin, this tour provides guests with an immersive preview of UTM's world-class facilities, programs, faculty, and students.

We wamly invite all students to enjoy our full cornucopia of tri-campus tours, including UTSC's many deep dives. Counsellors are also welcome to request a virtual visit from our representatives anytime.

SilverBuilding Back Better

If there's been a silver lining to the eighteen months of reduced activity on our campuses, it's that we've been able to make significant headway on several ambitious construction projects that future U of T students and their collaborators can enjoy for generations.

We’re looking forward to opening an Experiential Learning Commons on the St. George campus in April 2022. This facility will be the new home of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering Career Centre, Faculty of Arts & Science Experiential Learning & Outreach Support Office, and Student Life’s Employer Relations team. The new purpose-built space will help employers and students connect for co-op and internship work placements, as well as facilitate other experiential opportunities. U of T Mississauga is eager for its 170,000-square-foot Centre for Medicinal Chemistry to open its doors, so that students and faculty can use its glistening new labs to design new drugs and therapies. And with both a nine-storey student residence and a cutting-edge Instructional Centre in the works, U of T Scarborough cements its reputation as our fastest-growing campus every day. Learn more about some of these projects and others.
