A message to schools from UBC Student Recruitment:
School’s almost out for the summer! We’ve enjoyed connecting with you and your students, many of whom we will be welcoming to the UBC community in September. |

| The province of British Columbia and us here at UBC are working hard to prepare for increased on-campus activity in the fall. Students who have accepted their offer of admission may already know their specific course registration date and time for the upcoming Winter Session. Students can find this information in the Student Service Centre. They will also be contacted via email. This year, courses will state whether they are available online or in-person. |
| Students who have received an offer of admission to full-time studies in the first year of a degree may request a deferral for one year. To request a deferral, students must accept their offer and submit a deferred admission request form before July 1 for students admitted to the Vancouver campus and before August 15 for the Okanagan campus. Students should pay special attention to the eligibility criteria for a deferral. We are unable to approve all deferral applications, so we recommend that students still register for first-year courses, even if their deferral request is pending. |

| While we are preparing for a return to on-campus activity in the fall, our campus tours at both UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver will continue to be offered online for the remainder of the year. Live virtual campus tours of both UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver last about 75 minutes, and end with a student panel open to any questions. If you or your students would like to take a tour, visit the Tours and events page to register. Pre-recorded virtual tours are also available if you or your students would like to learn about UBC at your own pace. |

Jump Start orientation for first-year students |
Registration is now open for Jump Start: your students’ multi-day academic orientation designed to introduce them to the university, their professors, and their new classmates. Jump Start at both UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan will let them spend time with senior peers and professors in their faculty, make their first friends, and learn more about the UBC services available to them before classes start. Jump Start begins on either August 29 or 30, depending on your students’ campus and stream.
| Academic Essentials: transitioning to UBC | Once your students have accepted their offer, they’re ready for Academic Essentials: an online program to prepare them for academic success as they transition to university. They’ll refresh and build academic skills in math, reading, and writing; feel confident about their academic readiness; and have access to a library of learning and wellness resources to use in their first year. Academic Essentials is free, and runs from July 5 to August 12, 2021. | UBC 101: online orientation option | If your students have been admitted to UBC Okanagan, they should register for UBC 101: a self-guided, online course that takes around two hours to complete. They’ll discover the history and traditions of UBC Okanagan, learn about the academic transition to university, be introduced to on-campus support services, and take care of the basics before classes start. Registration is now open. |

Fall school visits, online | We are looking forward to interacting with students this fall through a variety of online events, including virtual school visits. We will also be hosting general events for prospective students and their families to learn more about UBC from the comfort of their home. Our student recruiter-advisors will be connecting with you about the best option for your school. We have already confirmed attendance to PSBC and CUE virtual fairs.
Indigenous-specific presentations |
If your school has Indigenous high school students, our Indigenous recruiter-advisors would love to connect with you to offer virtual events for your students that will include information about the Indigenous-specific programs and services available on both campuses. Please connect with Kristen Davis to learn more. |

UBC’s Schulich Leader Scholarship | The $200-million Schulich Leader Scholarship program awards 100 undergraduate scholarships annually to exceptional students who wish to study science, technology, engineering, or mathematics at top Canadian universities. Nominations for the 2021 academic year open this fall, so now is a good time to start thinking about students who might be a good fit. For more information, visit the Schulich Leader Scholarships website.
| Program spotlight: Clinical Exercise Physiology | | Are your students interested in sports, the human body, and healthcare? Clinical Exercise Physiology at UBC Okanagan will teach your students how to create treatment plans for patient rehabilitation and chronic disease recovery. The program focuses on the advanced study of applied physiology, and how exercise, movement, and fitness intersect with disease, fatigue, and disability. Your students will enjoy hands-on practicums, labs, and co-op placements, and will graduate ready for a career in kinesiology, exercise therapy, clinical exercise physiology, and personal training, among others. | | Have a wonderful summer! We’ll be in touch again in the fall. |
