A message to schools from UBC Recruitment:

Happy New Year, and welcome back to our monthly UBC updates!

We’d like to remind you that the final application deadline for the 2021/2022 academic year is January 15, 2021. You and your students can review the Okanagan and Vancouver admission requirements, as well as the  application process, online. We will reach out to applicants in late January via email with more information about collecting grades.
After applying to UBC
BC applicants who submit their UBC online application after December 2 must provide UBC with their Personal Education Number (PEN) and order a transcript via StudentTranscripts.gov.bc.ca by January 31. When ordering a transcript, applicants should select “Send my transcript now and allow this post-secondary institution to request transcript updates”, and choose the default date (one year from the date of their order), so that UBC can receive their interim and final grades continuously.

First-round offers of admission for applicants who submitted their UBC online application on or before December 2 will be going out soon and will continue until the end of February.
Admissions blog
If your students have questions about applying to UBC or the admissions process, be sure to tell them about the UBC admissions blog. We publish several posts each week about everything from admissions requirements and the online application to program options, financial planning, upcoming deadlines, and any COVID-related changes to our processes.
English Language Admissions Standard deadline: February 15, 2021
To meet the English Language Admissions Standard (ELAS), students need to complete four or more consecutive years of recognized, full-time education in English within Canada immediately prior to attending UBC.
Visit our ELAS page for the eight other ways to meet this requirement.
Language 11 waivers (Vancouver campus)
Applicants to UBC's Vancouver campus are required to have a Grade 11 language in addition to English. Students who entered the BC or Yukon school system after Grade 9 can have this requirement waived if their school counsellor or principal submits a written request on their behalf to language11.waiver@ubc.ca by February 15, 2021. Please include the student’s UBC reference number, as well as the date and grade at which the student entered the BC or Yukon system.

Students with a diagnosed disability are also eligible to have this requirement waived if they submit a "Request for second language course exemption" form to UBC's Centre for Accessibility by February 15, 2021.

Transfer standing, external language certificates, and external language assessments granted at the Grade 11 level may also be used to meet the language 11 requirement.
Physics/Chemistry 12 waivers for the Bachelor of Applied Science (Vancouver campus)
Outstanding students who are interested in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Engineering) on UBC's Vancouver campus, but are missing Physics 12 or Chemistry 12 (or their equivalents), are still encouraged to apply. Their applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
NEW Earth and Environmental Sciences Award (Okanagan campus)
The Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographic Sciences recognizes students who can demonstrate an interest in geology - along with exceptional work ethic, academic strength, and financial need - through its Charles E. Fipke Foundation Earth and Environmental Sciences Award. Endowed by noted Canadian geologist and UBC alumnus Charles (Chuck) Fipke, this renewable award of up to $40,000 (annual award value $10,000 subject to approved renewal) requires UBC applicants to submit a completed award application.

Students can learn more about the award and application process on the Earth, Environmental and Geographic Sciences Department website.
Indigenous students: self-identification
Students who wish to discuss self-identification on their UBC application with an advisor for Indigenous students can connect with us at indigenous.recruitment@ubc.ca.
Priority access to housing
Students who identify as Indigenous, have a disability or ongoing medical condition, or are participating in a select list of reciprocal student exchange programs qualify for priority access to housing. A full list of eligibility criteria for the Okanagan and Vancouver campuses is available online.
UBC Bursary Program
Students with government student loans from any province in Canada are eligible to apply for UBC Bursary. This is non-repayable funding received directly from UBC. The bursary program is designed to help eligible students fill the gap between the cost of attending UBC and the amount of government student loan received. The application opens in the summer prior to the start of classes.
Degree spotlight: Media Studies at UBC Okanagan
Do you have a student fascinated by how technology can be used to make art? UBC Okanagan’s Bachelor of Media Studies is designed for students to enter a career where they’ll work with still images, sound design, videos, or create games. This hands-on degree is a computational arts program, which means students will gain coding skills to enhance and create their art. Your students won’t need any prior experience in programming – only a creative mindset and a willingness to explore.
That’s all for now. We look forward to connecting with you again next month.
Sincerely,
