What is the Summer Science Program? 
The Summer Science Program is a one-week cultural, health and science program for Indigenous students entering grades 9-12 in the Fall. The program promotes interest in health and science programs through firsthand experience at the University of British Columbia. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and connect with Elders and Indigenous role models. The students will stay in first year dorms at the University of British Columbia and participate in cultural and health/STEM-related workshops throughout the week. 
Who can apply? 
Must be of First Nations, Inuit, or Métis Ancestry 
Must be entering grades 9-12 in Fall 2024

When is it? 
Session 1: Students entering grades 11 & 12 - June 30th - July 6th 2024
Session 2: Students entering grades 9 & 10  - July 7th - July 13th 2024

Deadline to apply is May 15th, 2024

Why Summer Science?
Participants in the Summer Science Program not only build valuable post-secondary connections but also create life long friendships. This program serves as both a community and a home away from home, offering a safe environment where students feel valued and excited about their future. Programs goals include: 
  • Educate students about various careers in health and science.
  • Offer guidance on post-secondary prerequisites, course planning, and admissions processes.
  • Introduce students to Indigenous role models in the healthcare and science fields.
  • Incorporate cultural knowledge into daily activities.
