Are you interested in working outdoors in a garden camp setting with children and youth over spring break? 

The Gardens at HCP is a public garden for learning in Saanich, BC. The Horticulture Centre of the Pacific (HCP) is a not-for-profit society focused on the provision of horticulture education and the development and maintenance of 103 acres of educational gardens and conservation lands. We are currently looking for two secondary school students to fill our Spring Break Camp Staff positions. The successful candidates will work with the School & Youth Programs Coordinator to assist with the planning and delivery of the spring camp programs and provide ongoing support to the camp program leader (including volunteers and other staff).

General Duties to include:

· Collaborate in the daily planning of a creative, hands-on, and interactive outdoor garden camp program

· Support a small team of program delivery staff and volunteers through cooperation and enthusiastic participation

· Provide leadership to a group of up to 16 children between 5-12 years, both in the garden and other natural areas, independently and collaboratively

The successful candidate must:

· Value and practice collaboration for a fun and interactive learning experience

· Have had positive experiences working with children and youth

· Be knowledgeable in natural environmental systems, including food production

· Be committed to providing exceptional experiences for all participants

· Practices a strong work ethic including; be diligent, responsible, and prompt

· Have excellent communication skills

· Have dependable transportation

· Complete a Criminal Record Check

· Have a current Emergency First Aid Certificate

Requirements

Applicants must:

· be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,

· have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

· be available for the duration of programming requirements between March 14-28, 2024

Duration: March 15 - March 28 (2 hour orientation + 2 weeks Spring Break camp delivery)

Wage: $16.75-$17.50/per hour (according to experience)

Days: Monday - Friday (8:15 am - 4:45 pm)
