We hope you, your team, and your students are doing well. Here at UNBC, we’re approximately 47% of the way through our admissions cycle for Fall 2023 and are sending you a “mid-cycle” update that we hope you’ll find useful!

In this update, we’ll talk about the following items:

  1. How UNBC’s Program Application Deadlines Work
  2. Entrance Scholarships, Awards, and Bursaries Competition – April 1
  3. Upcoming Online Future Students Information Sessions
  4. Reminder: Campus Tours and In-Person Appointments are BACK!

How UNBC’s Program Application Deadlines Work

You and your students may have noticed there are posted application deadlines for all programs on the website and Academic Calendar. Every year, however, almost all programs extend their application window beyond the first-posted deadline.

So why post a deadline at all? There are two reasons: First, for some of the competitive entry programs, the first deadline is when Admissions collects all complete applications submitted to that point and sends the package to a program committee for first review and the first round of offers. Applying before the posted deadline ensures a student’s application is part of that first review. Second, posting a first deadline gives applicants a target date that creates a greater likelihood of them being ready for and meeting next steps, such as applying for campus housing, applying for entrance scholarships (which have their own application deadline of April 1), and being ready for course registration when it opens in early May. The Admissions team maintains live page for all undergraduate programs’ application windows, which indicates which programs are accepting applications after their deadline.

Here’s a look as of March 8, 2023:

Entrance Scholarships, Awards, and Bursaries Competition – April 1

At UNBC, we recognize that post-secondary education is a huge investment – probably one of the largest investments students will make in their lifetime! UNBC provides more than $3 million in financial awards each year in order to support students in their pursuit of education, and 1 in 4 of our students receives at least one award.

Students are required to apply and be admitted to UNBC before they are eligible to apply for awards and financial aid at UNBC. The deadline to apply for awards and financial aid in time for the September 2023 semester is April 1, so please encourage your students to apply to UNBC and apply for financial awards as soon as possible!

We recently hosted a How to Apply for Scholarships online info session – students can access a recording of the session here.

Additionally, we’ve added information and links about the BC Youth in Care Tuition Waiver

Upcoming Online Information Sessions

The UNBC Student Recruitment Team will be hosting more online info sessions in the next month! Anyone interested in attending can register on our event page or by clicking an event link below.
