Happy New Year, and welcome back to our monthly UBC updates!

We’d like to remind you that the final application deadline for the 2022/2023 academic year is January 17, 2022. The usual deadline of January 15 falls on a Saturday, so we've extended the date all students are able to submit their applications in a timely manner.

Students can review the Okanagan and Vancouver admission requirements, as well as the application process, online. We will reach out to applicants in late January via email with more information about collecting grades.
First-round offers of admission
First-round offers of admission for applicants who submitted their UBC online application on or before December 1 will be going out soon and will continue until the end of February.
Our most popular Instagram post last month is the cover of the 2022 Undergraduate Student Guide
Admissions blog
If students have questions about applying to UBC or the admissions process, we offer the UBC admissions blog. We publish several posts each week about everything from admissions requirements and the online application to program options, financial planning, upcoming deadlines, and any COVID-related changes to our processes.
English Language Admissions Standard deadline: February 15, 2022
One of the ways to meet the English Language Admissions Standard (ELAS), is for students to complete four or more consecutive years of recognized, full-time education in English within Canada immediately prior to attending UBC.
Visit our ELAS page for the eight other ways to meet this requirement.
Waivers for applicants to Bachelor of Applied Science (Vancouver campus)
Outstanding students who are interested in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Engineering) on UBC's Vancouver campus, but are missing Physics 12 or Chemistry 12 (or their equivalents), are still encouraged to apply. Their applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Indigenous students: self-identification
Students who wish to discuss self-identification on their UBC application can connect with an advisor for Indigenous students at indigenous.recruitment@ubc.ca.
Priority access to housing
Students who identify as Indigenous, have a disability or ongoing medical condition, or are participating in a select list of reciprocal student exchange programs qualify for priority access to housing. A full list of eligibility criteria for the Okanagan and Vancouver campuses is available online.
Rural eMentoring
Rural eMentoring BC is a FREE online mentoring program that connects rural youth to mentors who are post-secondary students. NEW AT UBC ✨: Media Studies at UBC Okanagan

Are you fascinated by how technology can be used to make art? UBC Okanagan’s Bachelor of Media Studies is designed for students to enter a career where they’ll work with still images, sound design, videos, or create games. This hands-on degree is a computational arts program, which means students will gain coding skills to enhance and create their art. Your students won’t need any prior experience in programming – only a creative mindset and a willingness to explore.

Meet Lark, who has seen her creations in film and animation, website design, mobile app prototypes, and interactive art installations come to life using her computer-based skills.
That’s all for now. We look forward to connecting with you again next month.

Sincerely,
