Trade Exploration (TEx)
TEx is a full day, semester-long program where students get to sample 4 trade areas: Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, and a blend of Metal Trades. Each trade lasts for approximately 4 weeks of theory and practical training, followed by a one week work experience placement with an industry employer in that particular trade.
Location / Post Secondary Partner:
Claremont Secondary School in partnership with Camosun College (with periodic visits to various departments at Camosun’s Interurban campus).
All Saanich District Programs are available to any “school aged” student registered in any Saanich District school.
Students should be in grade 10, 11, or 12. They must possess grade appropriate numeracy and literacy skills and have a genuine interest and curiosity in exploring the trades with a view to potentially selecting a specific trade for further training.
Students must complete a TEx application form available from Claremont Secondary as well as a South Island Partnership application package. Students must meet with their home school Career Counsellor to complete this process.
Students will earn credit for a minimum of 5 courses:
Trade Samplers: TSTB 12A, TSTB 12B
Skilled Trades Explorations: STX 11A, STX 12A
Work Experience: WEx 12A (possible WEx 12B)
